CS Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Salim Mvurya Flags off Vehicles for Mining operations.

The Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Salim Mvurya launched the first batch of a fleet of 10 vehicles that will give logistical support and enhance operational capabilities of the mining department in enhancing field operations.
The CS was flanked by Principal Secretary, State Department for Mining Elijah Mwangi, CBS, and other senior officials from the department.
The deployment of this fleet is part of wide-reaching reforms in the sector to streamline field activities, enhance surveillance and enhance monitoring programs to ensure compliance with the mining laws.
The CS stated that the reforms would entail increase technical and human-skill capacity of the department to ensure the productivity of the mining sector was maximized. He further stated that the crackdown on all illegal mining operations would continue as part of government’s initiative to clean up the sector.
Already, the government has closed down over 1,200 illegal mining operations that were found to have failed to comply with the law. While encouraging investors to take advantage of the conducive investment environment in the county, the CS called for adherence to the laws as part of compliance.
He further called upon the artisanal miners to join marketing cooperatives where the miners would receive targeted support, training and linkages to financial institutions for funding.
