The project involves collection, collation, processing and electronically storing of all geological data and information and allows electronic retrieval and access. It also involves digitization and vectorization of existing geological reports and maps. In addition, the project maintains the rock museum and drill cores repository from mineral exploration projects and geotechnical investigations.

To help assist in mineral revenue and mineral production management, the State Department is installing and Operationalizing the Mineral Royalty Management System (MRMS).

To fully enhance and digitise the licencing and mineral rights management, the State Department is in the process of upgrading the Online Transactional Mining Cadastre System.

This project aims to investigate, mitigate and communicate threats arising from the geo-environment to prevent loss of life, property and infrastructure.

The project involves geological mapping, mineralogy, geo-morphology, structural geology and special distribution of rock types with relations to rocks in the area of interest. The information is applicable in areas such as mineral exploration, civil works, geo-research, academia among others. Mineral exploration involves establishing and evaluation of commercially viable mineral deposits. Mineral reserves are key in boosting national economy and development.

The Gemstone Value Addition Centre is located in Voi town, Taita Taveta County and is meant to provide affordable services to artisanal gemstone miners in cutting, polishing, and faceting. Also, the Centre helps in accessing favourable markets and capacity building for miners.
