CS Joho hosts Taita Taveta delegation for a follow-up meeting on mining

In a continued effort to strengthen the mining sector in Taita Taveta County, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hassan Ali Joho today hosted the county’s leadership led by Governor Andrew Mwadime for a follow-up meeting on the county's mining activities.

During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary emphasized the significance of community engagement in shaping the mining sector.

“This meeting is a continuation of my recent visit where we agreed on the need to hold regular, citizen-centered engagements. Our goal is to ensure that the community’s voice is at the heart of all decisions regarding mining operations in the county,” CS Joho stated.

He expressed the need to enhance collaboration between the county government, local leaders and the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs.

"We are committed to working together to make mining a more lucrative and sustainable venture for the people of Taita Taveta. By strengthening the relationship between the government and the local leadership, we can boost opportunities for growth and development," the Cabinet Secretary said.

Governor Andrew Mwadime echoed the sentiments, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.

“As local leaders, it is our responsibility to ensure that the people of Taita Taveta benefit from the abundant mineral resources in our county. We are grateful for the ongoing support from the Ministry and we look forward to continued partnership to make mining a key driver of our local economy,” Mwadime said.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment to improving the mining sector and ensuring that it contributes positively to the livelihoods of the local communities.
