CS Joho, PS Kimtai with Senate committee on visit to iron ore mining site in Jaribuni

Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary H.E. Hassan Ali Joho and Principal Secretary Mr. Harry Kimtai alongside the Standing Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources, led by Chairperson Senator Hon. Faki Mohamed Mwinyihaji today visited an iron ore mining site in the Jaribuni area of Kilifi County to assess environmental concerns.

During the engagement, it was resolved that the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) should ensure mining companies in the area strictly adhere to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) conditions including rehabilitation of mined areas.

An inter-agency task force will be established to monitor environmental management and address community concerns.

This is in line with the government's focus on balancing economic development with environmental protection and community welfare
