Mining PS meets Base Titanium senior management
Mining Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai today had a productive discussion with the senior management of Base Titanium about their innovative "Integrating Mining and Biodiversity Conservation Project."
Led by Dr. Melba Wasunna, the General Manager for External Affairs, the presentation highlighted the company's commitment to harmonizing mining operations with conservation efforts.
With mining operations now closed, Base Titanium has shifted its focus to decommissioning and rehabilitating mined areas.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Kimtai commended Base Titanium's dedication to progressive land rehabilitation which is fully aligned with the NEMA-approved Mine Closure Plan.
"I am convinced that the company is set to enhance biodiversity outcomes through its site-based conservation project, which adopts a community-driven model. This initiative not only promotes biodiversity and sustainable land use but also supports green livelihoods and boosts county revenue," the Principal Secretary said.
Mr. Kimtai praised Base Titanium's site-based conservation project is a great step forward and aligns perfectly with the recommendations of the Post Mining Land Use Committee.
