PS Kimtai applauds Geological Society of Kenya’s vital role in the mining sector

The Geological Society of Kenya (GSK) plays a vital role in the mining sector by promoting geosciences and fostering the professional development of its members.

Mining Principal Secretary Mr. Harry Kimtai today held a meeting with members of the GSK who paid him a courtesy call at his office in Nairobi. 

The delegation was led by GSK President Geol. Joseph Kuria who was accompanied by Vice Secretary Dr. Samson Oiro, Assistant Treasurer Hillary Koech and Senior Council Members Dr. Isaac Kanda and Evans Masachi among others.

The PS and members of the Geological Society of Kenya discussed areas of possible partnership in research and Geological data sharing drawn from different players. Their discussion also focused on enforcement to weed out quacks. 

As the administrator of Geologists, the State Department for Mining looks to work closely with the Geologists Registration Board (GRB) together GSK to align the legislation governing the professionals. 

During the meeting, the Principal Secretary was also briefed on the upcoming 30th Colloquium of African Geology (CAG30) that GSK will host in September. 

PS Kimtai said he was satisfied with the progress made so far regarding CAG 30 and expressed optimism that the event will provide Kenya with a valuable opportunity to showcase its geological resources potential, and the emerging geo-tourism in Kenya.
