PS Kimtai meets IMF delegation

Mining Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai welcomed a high-level delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of an ongoing Governance Diagnostic Assessment (GDA) in collaboration with various government agencies.

During the meeting, key areas of governance and anti-corruption frameworks within the extractive industries were discussed. This included the allocation of exploration rights, public disclosure of mining contracts, and beneficial ownership information—all aimed at enhancing accountability and aligning with global standards such as the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

The mission also tackled challenges related to tax policy and revenue administration, engaging with stakeholders, including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), to identify systemic issues and propose reforms for more efficient revenue collection.

"I appreciate the insightful discussions with the IMF delegation and reaffirm our commitment to policy reforms that strengthen accountability, improve service delivery and boost investor confidence in Kenya's extractive sector," PS Kimtai said.

Also in attendance were senior technical officers from the State Department for Mining including Secretary for Mines Mr. Thomas Mutwiwa and Secretary for Geological Survey Mr. Enoch Kipseba.
